Information on Gambia Experience Birdwatching Programmes  Based on Coastal Hotels.


The programmes are organised so as to fit in with guests arriving on Tuesdays - guests arriving on other days will need to stay in the Gambia for more than 7 nights.  The tours are run for guests in selected hotels. 

Tanji Week - a relaxed introduction to birdlife in The Gambia
 

  • a full day at Abuko Nature Reserve
  • a full day at the Tanji Reserve
  • a full day boat trip from Denton bridge to the surrounding creeks and mangrove
  • birds and breakfast - from Lamin Lodge in a dugout canoe to experience the dawn chorus.  After 2 hours return for breakfast at Lamin Lodge followed by a two hour stroll along the edge of the rice fields towards the Abuko Nature Reserve.


Plover Week - for the more dedicated birdwatcher

    •  a full day at Abuko Nature Reserve
    • a full day around Camalou Corner, Bund Road and the sewage farm.
    • full day boat trip from Denton bridge to the surrounding creeks and mangrove
    • birds and breakfast - from Lamin Lodge in a dugout canoe to experience the dawn chorus.  After 2 hours return for breakfast at Lamin Lodge followed by a two hour stroll along the edge of the rice fields towards the Abuko Nature Reserve.
    • a full day bush trip to include Yundum, Lamin Rice Fields, Brufut and Marikissa Koro.
Gambia Experience notes say "that for both tours visited areas may vary depending on local conditions.  to optimise birding time, collection from your hotel will be around 08.30 (with the except of Birds & Breakfast) with a long lunch break.  Drop off times will be between 18.00 and 20.00 hrs."
