Gambia Birding & Conservation Group to wind up. Following discussions with the membership the decision was taken at the end of December to close the group, primarily because falling membership numbers means that we are no longer cost effective.  Various pieces of work need to be finished or tied up but once that is done the remaining assets will be transferred to The African Bird Club but will be ring fenced so that they can only be used in pursuance of our original aims in The Gambia.

The website will continue to run until such time as the information has been incorporated into the African Bird Club's own website.  Many guides in The Gambia are now also running their own website.

This is a stop press announcement - obviously the website will now need to be amended to take account of the changes, whilst this is being done please bear with us if some of the references to the group are out of date.  But do feel free to contact us with enquiries about the Gambia as we are happy to assist .  You can also add information and sightings,  this will be retained for the record or passed on to the African Bird Club as appropriate when the site is transferred.

The Gambia has to be the most accessible, affordable sub-Saharan African birding for people in the UK. With over 540 different species of bird (together with butterflies, insects, dragonflies and flowers ) in a relatively small area it is so popular that many birders return year after year.

This website provides information about the practical aspects of visiting The Gambia for wildlife trips and about birding throughout The Gambia.

    • Use the headings on the side of the page to navigate your way around our site
    • Use the FAQ heading to find answers to the most frequently asked questions.
